Join us for a quiet hike in the countryside of Surrey. We'll strike out from Witley on the sandy Greensand Way and follow the gently undulating ridgeline through ancient woodland. The highlight of this hike will be following the footpath through the National Trust's Winkworth Arboretum, taking in the beautiful secluded valley in it's autumn-colour glory reflecting off the lake. Once out of Winkworth, we will follow the River Wey into the town of Godalming, with its picturesque medieval high street. I'll also show you a very ancient yew tree that lords over an ancient churchyard, and a lovely hilltop viewpoint where we can take in the beauty of the Surrey Hills. At the finish, if people are up for it, there will also be a rather special pub that's known for its outrageous Halloween decorations, quite a treat, so not one to miss.

GRADE: Beginner/Intermediate. 17km/10.5 miles 320m total ascent, about 4 hours walking time. Hilly in places, but nothing really steep or strenuous.

MEETING POINT: 10:45 Witley station. Hike starts shortly after the train arrives.

TRAINS: There is a train from Waterloo at 9:45 that gets to Witley Station at 10:42. This is a linear hike that ends at Godalming station, which is on the same line.

LUNCH: Pack lunch

WALK FINISHES: Approx 16:00 at Godalming station
