About This Event

The event Could Your Manufacturing Business Survive a Cyber Attack? will be held on 30 September 2026 at 08:15 at Pavilions of Harrogate. This business-focused event, delivered by Made Smarter and NECRC, offers free entry.

Protect your business, data and reputation. Delivered by Made Smarter and NECRC.

A cyberattack costs a UK business an average of £190,000, contributing to an annual economic cost of £14.7 billion.

Cyber threats continue to evolve, and human error remains the most common cause of security incidents.

Made Smarter Yorkshire is launching new, fully funded cyber security workshops this September. Delivered in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, these workshops will help manufacturers strengthen their cyber awareness, resilience, and security practices.

Every manufacturer starts from a different place. Whether your business is taking its first steps in cyber security, preparing for certification or working towards internationally recognised standards, our training is designed to meet you where you are. With four progressive levels, you can choose the right support for your current needs and build your cyber resilience at a practical, achievable pace.

Agenda:

9:15am Registration with tea/coffee

10am – Intro from Mike Pennington Business relationship manager for Made Smarter Yorkshire

10.15am – Intro from Steve Leach NECRC

10.30am – Interactive cyber exercise in breakout sessions with NECRC.

This is a tabletop/role-playing scenario exercise about physical and technical security within organisations. Delegates are challenged with managing the security of a small utility company: they are given a budget that they can spend among a range of different defensive options.

Decisions must be made considering several potential threats, known vulnerabilities of the infrastructure, past and ongoing cyber-attacks, and of course budget limitations. The aim is to challenge teams to think differently about business security, no technical knowledge is required to take part.

No understanding of technical IT concepts is required, this workshop is not aimed at IT personnel – and is perfectly suited to professionals from a range of industry roles, sectors, and experience.

11.45 – A thorough debrief to highlight key learnings and takeaways.

12pm - Lunch & Networking

1pm – Close.

Description supplied by the event organiser.
