Desborough Castle was a castle during the Middle Ages. It is west of Rutland Avenue and is worth a visit in the autumn as the woodland has wonderful colours. You will also be able to see the contours of the castle as the undergrowth is dying back.

We will be working at Desborough Castle and surrounding areas. We will meet on site at 10am and finish at approximately 3.30pm. We will meet at the small car park on Spearing Road Service Road (just off Rutland Avenue). Free parking is available in this car park, or on Rutland Avenue. Please park considerately. The nearest postcode is: HP12 3JW.
Please can we ask everyone to arrive on time to ensure you do not miss the health & safety and task briefing. If you are late and the session has already started, you may not be able to join. Thank you.
You don't need to print off your Eventbrite ticket!
The Task:
We will be clearing and thinning the area to let in more light and create a more diverse habitat . We hope you can join us to help make this site a lovely place to visit.
Timings (please note these timings are approximate):
10.00: Arrival for safety briefing, please don't be late!
10.15: Work begins
11.30: Tea & coffee break
13.00: Lunch Break - please bring your own
15.30: Work finishes, time to go home!
What to bring:
Please bring your gloves (we will have spares) and dress for the weather and the task.
Long trousers are advisable as there is thorny vegetation. We also recommend wearing steel toe capped or sturdy boots rather than trainers. You may want to bring your wellies but these are not necessary.
Wear layers that you can remove if you get hot whilst working. Bring a waterproof as most of our sites have no shelter from the rain.
Please bring plenty of fluids and a packed lunch. We will bring a tea kit and biscuits.
Access:
There are some steep sections in Desborough Castle and tree roots and brambles underfoot. This site may not be suitable for those with limited mobility or who are unsteady on their feet.
Please note:
Biscuits are served at all Chiltern Rangers sessions. Please advise if you have an allergy.
Sometimes there is a need for us to use power tools that can be noisy.
