About This Event

Join RIBA Buckinghamshire and Buckinghamshire New University for an evening with architectural photographer Emily Marshall. Join RIBA Buckinghamshire and Buckinghamshire New University for an evening with architectural photographer Emily Marshall, exploring the role photography plays in communicating architecture, design and the built environment. Photography is an important part of how architecture is experienced, communicated and understood. For architects and designers, strong imagery can help tell the story of a project, communicate design intent and shape how a practice presents itself to clients and the wider public. For smaller practices in particular, understanding how to use photography effectively can make a significant difference to websites, portfolios, awards submissions and communications. During this talk, Emily Marshall will explore architectural photography from the photographer’s perspective, considering how buildings, interiors and designed spaces can be captured and communicated through images. The session will also look at the relationship between architecture, photography and wider creative disciplines, including design, art and image-making. The evening will include approximately one hour of presentation followed by an audience Q&A, providing an opportunity to hear directly from Emily and discuss the practical and creative considerations behind architectural photography. Speaker Emily Marshall – Architectural and Interiors Photographer (https://www.emilymarshall.co.uk/) Emily Marshall is a Buckinghamshire-based photographer specialising in architecture and interiors. Her work focuses on capturing buildings, spaces and interiors in a way that communicates their character, materiality and atmosphere. She has worked with a broad range of architecture, design, property and cultural clients, including The Modern House, Inigo, The Landmark Trust, The New Craftsmen, Feilden Fowles, K Bava Architects, DKCM, Hoxton Mini Press, Studio Nicholson, Folk and The Savoy. Through her commissioned work, Emily brings a photographer’s perspective to how architecture is represented and communicated visually. For this event, she will draw on that experience to explore how architects and practices can think more carefully about photography from documenting completed projects to creating strong imagery for websites, publications, portfolios and wider promotion. ©Emily Marshall Photography Who is this event for? This event is particularly relevant to RIBA Members and architectural professionals, especially those working in smaller practices who want to better understand how photography can support the presentation and promotion of their work.
