Learn to take better photographs in a beautiful woodland setting, with practical guidance from professional photographer and woodland expert Woodland Photography Workshop at Old Hanging Wood Learn to take better photographs in a beautiful woodland setting, with practical guidance from professional photographer and woodland expert Donato Cinicolo. Saturday 19 September 2026 10:00am–12:30pm Old Hanging Wood, Little Chalfont £30 per person Maximum 8 participants (Ages 12+. Anyone under 16 must attend with a paying adult. Each attendee, including the accompanying adult, will need their own ticket.) About the workshop Want to take better photographs but not sure what makes one image really stand out from another? Join us for a relaxed, practical 2.5-hour woodland photography workshop at Old Hanging Wood, led by experienced photographer, videographer and tree expert Donato Cinicolo. Using the woodland as our outdoor classroom, Donato will help you look differently at the landscape around you and show you how to create stronger, more interesting photographs. You’ll explore photography techniques including: Composition and framing Making the most of natural light Finding interesting angles and perspectives Creating depth and atmosphere Looking for details, textures, patterns and colour Developing your own photographic eye Getting more from the camera or smartphone you already own Rather than spending the session sitting through theory, we'll be out in the woodland taking photographs, experimenting with different techniques and getting individual advice as we go. More than just a photography walk One of the things that makes this workshop a little different is Donato's knowledge of the woodland itself. As we explore Old Hanging Wood, he'll also share some of the stories behind the trees and landscape around us - from identifying different species to understanding how particular woods have traditionally been used. It means you'll not only leave with new photography skills, but hopefully with a completely different way of noticing the woodland around you. Who is it for? This workshop is designed to be accessible and welcoming, particularly if you're new to photography or simply want to improve the photographs you take. You don't need specialist equipment or an expensive camera. Bring whatever you normally use: 📱 Smartphone 📷 DSLR or mirrorless camera 📸 Compact camera The principles we'll explore apply whichever device you're using. More experienced photographers are also very welcome. Small group – maximum 8 people We're deliberately keeping this workshop small, with just eight places available. This gives everyone plenty of opportunity to ask questions, receive individual guidance from Donato and experiment without feeling rushed. What to bring Please bring: Your camera or smartphone Comfortable footwear suitable for woodland paths Clothing appropriate for the weather A waterproof jacket if rain is forecast Most importantly, bring your curiosity - you don't need any previous photography knowledge. Practical information Full joining instructions, including the exact meeting point, parking information and anything you need to bring, will be emailed to participants before the session. Mailing list Places are limited. If a session is full, join our photography mailing list to hear first about future dates by emailing oldhangingwood@gmail.com.
