The Piece Hall in Manchester will host an important event titled "Challenging the Silence: Male Survivor Needs" on September 25, 2026, from 9:30 am onwards. This free gathering is designed to explore issues surrounding male survivors of sexual abuse and violence through a series of thought-provoking discussions led by multiple speakers. The event aims to foster greater community understanding and support for this often-overlooked group. By creating a safe environment for open dialogue, the organisers hope to challenge societal silence around these critical issues, encouraging more informed and empathetic conversations about male survivorship in the region.
Seminar series running across West Yorkshire.
This project will deliver a series of five in-person seminars across West Yorkshire, visiting each of the five local authority areas. Each event will combine the latest research evidence, frontline practice insight, and a powerful lived experience exhibition to challenge the silence surrounding childhood sexual abuse and improve access to support - particularly for male survivors.
The seminars will be led by Survivors West Yorkshire (SWY) and showcase Ben’s Place, West Yorkshire’s only large-scale specialist service for male survivors. Alongside this, Dr Stacey Maher from the University of Huddersfield will present her latest research into male survivors. The events will also feature a wraparound survivor-led photography exhibition, Victorious Voices, which brings together both male and female survivors to demonstrate the strength, solidarity, and allyship that exists across genders in the healing journey.
