About This Event

Fungi Stories: A Reading Walk is an October 22nd event led by Dr Elspeth Mitchell in Beverley. It combines storytelling with a walk through Westwood, exploring connections between nature and folklore.

Join Dr Elspeth Mitchell for a fascinating walkshop where stories, mushrooms, trees and people come together on the Westwood.

Join writer and fungi enthusiast Elspeth Mitchell for a gentle woodland walk through Beverley Westwood, where storytelling and fungi foraging come together.

As we wander through the trees, we'll share readings from texts that explore the fascinating relationships between trees, fungi, and people. Along the way, there will be opportunities to slow down, look closely, and discover the fungi living alongside - and within - the woodland around us.

Aimed towards adults and older teens, this free walkshop offers space for conversation, observation, and collective reading in the woods, and is open to anyone curious about nature, storytelling, and alternative ways of understanding the more-than-human world.

Dr Elspeth Mitchell is writer, teacher at the University of Leeds, and committee member of the Mid-Yorkshire Fungus Group. She is also co-creator of the Queer Mycology Lab. Elspeth's work brings together feminism, visual culture, and community-centred approaches to engaging with fungi and the natural world.

Please note that the walk takes place on uneven woodland terrain. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. Meet on the footpath opposite Seven Corners Lane at 12.55pm (what3words: ultra.otter.remains)

If you book on and then find you are no longer able to make it, please cancel your ticket on Eventbrite so we can release the ticket to someone else. Thank you.

This activity has been commissioned by Hull and East Riding Friends of the Earth as part of Tree Stories, a creative community nature project funded by the National Lottery Communities Fund.
