About This Event

Practical workshop led by the Seed Sovereignty Programme, learning how to save seed from crops effectively

What to expect:

- Learn how to tackle the problem of seed costs and the limits of F1 hybrids

- Suitable for gardeners of all abilities, with opportunity for participants who already save their seeds to share their knowledge

- Film screenings from international collectives based in Lebanon and India

- A delicious hot meal

Fact - our industrial farming methods are causing more harm than good

Fact - our changing climate is making it existentially difficult to have consistent harvests to feed our peoples

Fiction - there is no alternative to burying our heads in pesticides

Fiction - we have no knowledge of what to do or how to do it

This event is about getting our fears and hopes together in the same place to talk. It’s for learning about our histories and cultures, and how they emerged from us working our lands. It’s about understanding that by empowering our minds and bodies with knowledge and connection, we will make our way towards soil repair and regenerative practices.

We need our small scale growers and our groceries and our markets. We need full and nourished bellies. We need a society where no child is growing up with the threat of hunger. We need access to our lands and we need to remember why.

We’d like to use this event to continue the networking and skill sharing of growers in Hull and East Riding.

There is the option at the event of donating to our fundraiser for Buzuruna Juzuruna (https://linktr.ee/buzurunajuzuruna), whose short film Seeds of Dignity we will be screening.

Tickets are limited so if you’re coming then we’d like to ask that you represent your collective/farm/group etc. so this knowledge can spread as far as possible! A maximum of two tickets per organisation is the guide.

If you’re not part of a growing group but are interested in learning about seed saving or getting connected to growers and growing groups then drop us a message and we’ll get in contact if there are available spaces, as well as doing our best to link you up with a group!

Please let us know any allergies you have, particularly to broad beans, so what seeds we handle during the workshop can be adjusted.
