Tour of Suffolk's energy-from-waste facility. The Suffolk energy-from-waste facility processes 295,000 tonnes of domestic and commercial waste each year – generating enough electricity to power 50,000 homes. Our objective is to provide an alternative to waste being sent to landfill and reduce the associated cost to Suffolk tax-payers, turning non-recyclable waste into energy. The visit is expected to last about 2 hours and will include a short presentation, a tour of the facility and a chance to explore our visitor centre. Please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure a prompt start to the tour. Please be aware that the tour involves a 1.5km walk including a climb of 23 metres up over 300 stairs and several mesh walkways, and is therefore not suitable for people with mobility issues or vertigo. For safety reasons, children under 7 years old are not permitted on the tour. Dress code • Visitors are required to wear full length trousers on site. Shorts, 3/4 length trousers, skirts or dresses are not permitted. • Visitors are required to wear closed trainers or walking boots. Sandals, flip flops or heeled shoes are not permitted. • Whilst on the tour visitors are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), provided by SUEZ, including a hard hat, high visibility jacket, gloves and safety glasses. Anyone failing to comply with the dress code will not be permitted on the tour. Please be aware that this is an operational site therefore operational issues will always take priority over visitor tours. Tours may be cancelled at late notice. Should you wish to attend but find that the events are both sold out, please register your interest in attending by contacting us on suffolkefw.uk@suez.com.
