About This Event

The South Cumbria and North Lancashire mock trial of a fire safety prosecution will take place at Lancaster University on 17 September 2026, providing a professional development event for attendees.

From incident to verdict: A mock trial of a fire safety prosecution

This engaging and interactive professional development event will provide attendees with a unique insight into the legal consequences of fire safety failures through a realistic mock trial based on a fire safety prosecution case.

Participants will follow the progression of a fictional but realistic incident involving breaches of fire safety legislation, examining the circumstances leading to the alleged offences, the investigation process, and the subsequent legal proceedings.

The mock trial will recreate a courtroom environment, with key roles including prosecution, defence, witnesses, and a judge, enabling attendees to observe how evidence is scrutinised and how legal arguments are presented.
