If you visited Bramley Baths 120 years ago, what would you have seen, heard, smelled and tasted? And how might your experience have differed from a visit today? Join local historian and PhD researcher Sophia Lambert for a fascinating sensory journey through the history of Bramley Baths. Exploring this beautiful Grade II listed building, we’ll uncover the sights, sounds, smells and tastes that shaped people’s experiences of the Baths throughout the twentieth century. As we move through the building, Sophia will explore its rich architectural and social history, including its famous stained-glass windows, and share stories of the many events that have taken place here — from dances and football matches to the unforgettable story of a donkey appearing on stage one evening! The tour will finish with a display of historic photographs and archival material from Bramley Baths. You’ll also have the opportunity to share your own memories and stories of the Baths, helping to contribute to its growing community archive. This event is part of #morethanapool, a heritage participation project exploring the history, stories and memories of Bramley Baths and its place within the local community. Through talks, tours, workshops and opportunities to share memories, the project is helping to uncover and celebrate the many different ways people have experienced this much-loved local heritage site. About Sophia Sophia Lambert is a local historian and PhD researcher exploring the social and cultural history of Leeds and Bradford. She is the founder of @LeedsHiddenHeritage, an Instagram account uncovering the histories of Leeds’ famous and forgotten buildings and spaces. She is also completing a PhD in History at the University of Leeds.
