About the Walk

Leeds Lapwings is a friendly, and inclusive birdwatching group based in Leeds.

We bring together people who want to slow down, enjoy nature, explore local birdlife, and connect with others in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

No matter your experience level, you’re invited to join us for a low-pressure, social way into birdwatching. Come as you are!

We are primarily aimed at young adults in their 20s and 30s, but welcome anyone who shares our approach.

For health, safety and insurance reasons, we can only accept attendance by adult humans aged 18+ please! (with the exception of guide dogs).

What to Look Out For

Golden Acre Park is home to a wide variety of wildlife. Depending on the day, you might spot:

• Tuneful songbirds such as Nuthatch, Chaffinch, and Song Thrush.

• A variety of wildfowl including the striking Madarin, and potentially Grey Herons stalking fish by the lake.

• Majestic Red Kites and Buzzards circling above.

• If we are lucky, more elusive woodland birds such as Jays and Woodpeckers.

• Last years highlight's included a particularly photogenic Treecreeper and a colourful flock of Siskins! The cover photo for this event was taken by community member Matt Jones on our last Golden Acre walk.

What to Bring

• Water

• Snacks e.g. fruit or energy bars

• Comfortable trainers or walking shoes

• Light jacket, jumper, or coat

• Binoculars (if you have them – no worries if not, we have several pairs of Opricron binoculars to lend out.)

Optional tea or coffee stop!

After the walk you are welcome to join us for a warm drink at the Golden Acre Park Tea Rooms, to get to know each other a little more and discuss the birds spotted during the walk!

Accessibility

The route is flat and mostly accessible, with opportunities to rest along the way. Please contact us for the exact route and speak with us about route flexibility if it would support your attendance. Occassionally the footpaths can be muddy with wet areas if it has been raining.

There is paid parking and public transport nearby.

Booking

Spaces are limited so we can keep the group small and friendly. Book your free ticket today to join us. If spaces sell out, you will be able to join a waiting list to be contacted in the case of any cancellations ahead of the event.
