Contemporary Sashiko takes place on 7 November 2026 at Sunny Bank Mills Gallery in Leeds. Victoria Merness will demonstrate a simplified method of this Japanese embroidery technique. Tickets are priced at £58.00.

Victoria will show you how to do this beautiful Japanese method of embroidery in a simplified way, without the pressure to adhere to strict stitch lines.
There will be a choice of kit from Victoria’s current Sashiko designs. All of the kits are suitable for beginners and employ simple stitch styles. Victoria will demonstrate all of the steps and the stitches.
A beautiful Sashiko kit is included within the workshop ticket price. and it will contain all of the materials needed to complete the project. All other tools will be available to use in the studio.
It is unlikely that the project will be fully completed in the workshop, but we will make good progress on it, and everything is contained within the kit to finish at home. Victoria will ensure you are well armed with all the information needed to complete the project.
This workshop is especially suitable for beginners to embroidery, as the stitches are very simple yet are used to great effect.
Kits can typically be made into needle cases, drawstring bags, or journal covers, and printed instructions are included.
Kit contents included in the workshop, and for you to take home:
· A choice of Sashiko kit from Victoria’s current designs. Each kit contains:
· A pure linen panel
· Daruma Sashiko threads
· Sashiko needles
· Embroidery pattern & guide
· Fleece
· Cotton webbing
· Some kits also contain wool felt, and wool blanket wadding.
If you have any materials, threads or embellishments that you would particularly like to use, this is very much encouraged.
Artist bio:
Victoria Merness is an artist, teacher, and designer. Victoria holds an MA in Contemporary Fine Art, and whilst her creative business focus is on designing embroidery kits for Little House of Victoria, she also specialises in textile art, mixed media, painting, and printmaking. Victoria’s personal practice often combines paint, print, and stitch, and is autobiographical with familial themes.
Victoria loves to encourage the enjoyment of making, with a strong focus on progression over perfection.
When attending a workshop you can receive 10% off within the Gallery Shop on the day of your session.
About the venue
Sunny Bank Mills is an inspirational cultural destination in the heart of the local community of Farsley, Leeds. Founded in 1829, these glorious Mills are being regenerated by the sixth generation of the family owners, creating a wonderful blend of work, leisure and culture.

Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. As materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.
If we need to cancel the course for any reason your ticket will be fully refunded.
