Join us for a Saturday visit to **Temple Newsam**, one of Leeds’ great historic estates. We’ll meet outside Leeds Bus Station at **10.00am** and travel over together by bus or if you wish to arrive independently then please message me what time you will get there (we should be there at 10.45 at the latest). Temple Newsam has more than **500 years of history**, with connections to the Knights Templar, Henry VIII and Mary, Queen of Scots. Lord Darnley — the husband of Mary, Queen of Scots and father of the future James I — was born here in 1545. Over the centuries the house was transformed from a Tudor mansion into an impressive country house, with later generations adding its grand Georgian interiors and collections. We’ll go inside the House, where there are more than **40 historic rooms** to explore, including the magnificent Picture Gallery, period interiors and an internationally important collection of fine and decorative art. Temple Newsam is particularly renowned for its furniture collection, considered one of the finest in Britain outside the V&A. There should also be time to enjoy some of the estate and gardens. These include the formal South Garden beside the house and the historic Walled Garden, with its long herbaceous borders, rose beds and peaceful pathways. The wider estate also includes parkland and lakes, much of the landscape having been shaped by Capability Brown. **House admission: £10.50 per person.** Please also allow for your bus fare and any food or drinks you would like to buy. **You are very welcome to join us just for Temple Newsam, or continue on to our second event of the day — St Peter’s Singers at St Mary’s Church, Whitkirk.**
