This five piece combines their love for pop music and dark sentiments with a punk ethos. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists - such as The Ronettes, MF Doom, Dry Cleaning and Kate Bush - they've crafted a sound that's truly and twistedly their own.

What initially began as an outlet, both creatively and politically, mutated into a musical life mission for its members. Their DIY approach, from songwriting to releasing music and tour management, is what makes The Klittens the ragtag bunch of misfits they are. The band consists of Yaël Dekker (vocals), Winnie Conradi (guitar), Katja Kahana (guitar), Marrit Meinema (bass guitar), and Laurie Zantinge (drums).

New album Have A Heart:

This September The Klittens will release their long awaited debut album “Have A Heart". Crafted from blood, sweat and cardboard, this title will be self-released in true Klittens fashion.

As the listeners have sampled on their previous EPs, the band succeeds again in bringing a blend of their individual (and often divergent) styles to provide an allround experience of their experiences. With their instrumentation as the only limit to their imaginations the band has made an album that takes influence from country to pop to (post-)punk, always with a Klittens twist. Using four instruments and five vocals as the core, each of the ten tracks is a separate instrumental and lyrical story in its own right.

“Have A Heart“ paints a heavy picture with pastels. Both an accusation and a plea, the title preaches to the core of the album; the feelings of powerlessness we all experience in our lifetime and the ways we fight back against them. No matter how great or small your sense of helplessness may be. Whatever form your reaction to this feeling takes, whether resistance or surrender, there’s a good chance there’s a track on “Have A Heart” that you can relate to.

Opening and eponymous titletrack, ‘Have A Heart’, is about how we keep our distance, and distance ourselves, from a difficult time over which we have no control and the ways in which to confront it (such as by writing an album).‘Their House’ refers to the housing crisis and is based on true lived experiences of eviction, unaffordable rents and always feeling cramped in another person’s space. ‘Triple Threat’ speaks to a considerably more intimate way of lacking power which makes it all the more fragile; how do you defend yourself when you want to surrender? ‘Nothing To Teach’ tries to get a simple message across through deadpan humour and jangly guitars; we appreciate that you think you know it all, but we don’t think so…

This debut album follows their EP’s “Citrus” (2022) and “Butter” (2024). With these EP’s the band has toured extensively across Europe and the UK, including as the support for Otoboke Beaver and BODEGA during their European tours. As a part of the Dutch indie wave that includes bands like Personal Trainer, Real Farmer, Lewsberg and Pip Blom, The Klittens invest in this upcoming scene by organising their own annual festival Klitfest in the Netherlands and the UK.
