Get ready to dive into powerful Black stories and Northern voices coming together for an unforgettable evening.

About This Event

People often overlook Black presence, culture, and reporting in many parts of the north of England. We Are Black Journos (WABJ) is coming to Leeds to reframe that narrative, reignite our shared passion, and celebrate the essential work of Northern Black media professionals in Yorkshire and beyond.

Amid shrinking newsrooms, rapid technological shifts, and industry pressures, it’s easy to experience fatigue and lose sight of the spark that brought us here.

"Remember the Reason" is a space for journalists, producers, researchers, comms specialists, and storytellers to gather, reflect, and remind ourselves of our value—both personally and professionally.

Join us for an interactive evening of high-energy networking, whole-room discussions, group creative sessions, and collaborative visioning for the future of journalism.

What to Expect

Networking with Purpose: Connect with peers across the North using interactive prompt cards designed to break the ice and uncover shared experiences.

Open & Honest Discussions: Explore the unique realities, challenges, and opportunities of reporting in Northern communities.

Interactive Group Activities: Reflect on the stories that shaped your career and pitch the untold narratives our communities still need.

Visioning the Future: Reimagine what journalism built from scratch in 2026 should look like—tackling newsrooms, AI, trust, representation, and career pathways.

Community Plugs & Networking: A dedicated platform at the end of the night to share projects, promote your work, or shoot your career shot.

Soft drinks, snacks, and special thank you treats for coming!

Please note - the venue is only accessible via step access.

We're super looking forward to connecting with you on what will be a fruitful meetup in the buzzing city that is Leeds!

Any questions at all, please don't hesitate to give us a shout - info@weareblackjournos.org.
