A trilogy of discovery awaits at Morley Quarry, detecting bats, enticing moths, then gazing into the universe with the help of telescopes.

Bats, Moths and Stars Discovery Night

Date and Time: September 25, 2026 at 7:00 PM (BST)

Venue: Morley Quarry, Morley Lane, Shepshed (next to the cricket club)

Join us for an engaging evening of dusky discovery beginning with an informative bat talk, followed by a short walk around the paths of the quarry to deepen your understanding of these fascinating creatures.

After that, meet up with moth specialists to explore the diversity of moths up close using traps designed to attract them. This activity provides a unique opportunity to observe the diversity and behavior of a small percentage of the 2500 moth species found in the UK.

Conclude the evening by gazing into the cosmos through telescopes, guided by experts from the Leicester Astronomical Society, who will help you experience the wonder of the night sky.

A small number of bat detectors are provided, therefore if you have one, please bring your own.

The event will be heavily weather dependant, therefore, if weather conditions prohibit bat and moth activity, and cloud cover inihibits stargazing, the event will be cancelled with 24 hours notice.
