Black Girls Hike: Abbey Park, Watermead Country Park & River Soar Circular - Leicester

Join us for a scenic, predominantly flat circular walk through Abbey Park and Watermead Country Park following stretches of the River Soar and Grand Union Canal. The route takes in parkland, waterways and lakes. There is also lots of interest beyond the natural surroundings, including locks, weirs and bridges.

Terrain: The route is classed as moderate and, although largely flat and on good tracks, a reasonable level of fitness is required due to the distance. Some sections may be muddy following wet weather.

What to Wear & Bring:

• Supportive walking boots or waterproof shoes

• Weather-appropriate layers (woodland areas can feel cooler)

• Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen (if warm weather)

• 1.5–2 litres of water

• Packed lunch and snacks

Facilities: Toilet and refreshment facilities are available at points within the parks but please come prepared with everything you need for the walk.

Transport/Travel : The closest train station is 8 mins in a taxi and a 25 min bus ride from the meeting point. Car parking is available near the meeting point.

This event will be led by a BGH trained walk leader. Please note that the leader does not hold a Mountain Leader qualification, and participation is therefore at your own discretion and risk.
