Our Research & Innovation Lightning Talk will showcase impactful work from across DMU’s Research Institutes and SDG Hub, highlighting how we are addressing real-world challenges and creating positive change. These short presentations will provide the backdrop for the themed challenge sessions and encourage discussion, networking and new collaborations throughout the event.

Research and Innovation Challenge Workshops
Responsible Digital and AI Transformation: Multidisciplinary Approaches, Barriers and Opportunities in Organisations
This challenge session examines digital and Al transformation as introducing AI is not just about buying new technology. It's about changing the way people work, think and run organisations. But what’s the best way to do that? Come, hear and consider the challenge on how digital technologies, and Al can be strategically aligned with business goals, operational processes, and stakeholder in mind to deliver measurable added value and sustainable impact.
Driving Impact in Pharmaceutical, Health and Social Science Innovation
This interactive challenge session asks a fundamental question: how can multidisciplinary research be translated into meaningful health, social and pharmaceutical impact? Drawing on expert insights and real-world case studies from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences' research and innovation institutes (LIPHI and SSRI), participants will critically examine the barriers that prevent research from achieving societal benefit and identify the enablers of successful impact.
Through facilitated roundtable discussions, attendees will work collaboratively to develop practical solutions, share experiences, and generate new approaches to addressing complex health and social challenges. The session will challenge participants to think beyond disciplinary boundaries and consider how research can drive tangible change for individuals, communities and organisations.
Creating Sustainable Cities and Communities: How Can DMU Support You?
How can research, innovation and partnership help create more sustainable, resilient and inclusive places? This challenge session will bring together researchers, partners and stakeholders to explore the opportunities and challenges facing our cities and communities. Through discussion and shared insights, participants will examine how DMU’s expertise, facilities and collaborative approach can support the development of sustainable solutions that deliver positive economic, social and environmental impact.
Morning only - New Perspectives in the Humanities (12.05-12.45)
This challenge session explores how humanities research can deepen our understanding of identity, ethics and society through fresh and innovative perspectives. Featuring talks from Professor Panikos Panayi on Cyprus and its Diaspora and Dr Beatriz Pichel on Medical Photography: From the Material to the Ethical, the session will showcase how humanities scholarship addresses contemporary challenges, shapes public understanding and creates meaningful societal impact. This morning session offers an opportunity to engage with new ideas, perspectives and conversations emerging from humanities research.
