About This Event
This event will be bookable on Monday 3 August 2026. Learn the Japanese handicraft of Kinusaiga, a form of textile art, in this new half day workshop. Kinusaiga is a form of textile art collage made by pressing fabric into a board, creating a unique piece of wall art that resembles stained glass. Tutor Bonita will guide you to create your own design, or you can follow one of Bonita’s designs if you prefer. You’ll then be shown how to transfer your design to the board and cut your fabrics, before learning how to use a Kinusaiga tool to remove paper from the board and add the fabrics. The final stage is to finish off and apply ribbon edging. By the end of the workshop you’ll have a unique piece of wall art to keep or gift, and have the knowledge and skills to continue this beautiful craft at home. About the tutor: Tutor Bonita Keay is a Designer Maker with over 15 years of experience teaching a wide range of crafts and loves to share her creative knowledge with others. She teaches a variety of textile arts as well as macramé, weaving, embroidery and more. When she’s not teaching Bonita makes silver and crystal jewellery and has been selling her work for over 20 years both online and at craft events including our very own Craft & Art Fairs here at Attenborough Arts Centre. Further information: All materials and equipment are provided and no experience is necessary! This half-day workshop will start at 10:30am and finish at 1:30pm on Saturday 13 March 2027. Participants must be aged 14+. Under 18s must be accompanied by a paying adult at all times. If the course/workshop you’d like to book is sold out, we do operate a waiting list – simply contact our box office team on 0116 252 2455 /arts-centre@le.ac.ukand ask to be added to the waiting list. We’ll then contact you if a place becomes available, with absolutely no obligation to accept it if you’ve made other plans! Please ensure that you read and agree to our updated Terms & Conditions before booking as courses/workshops are non-refundable if cancelled within 21 days of the start date for any reason. We aim to make all our sessions as accessible as possible and carers/PAs are very welcome – just remember to book their free place when you book your session. If you’d like to talk to us in advance of booking or attending your sessions to discuss your access needs, our Box Office team is here to help!
