About This Event

A St Michaels Session features various artists playing with James Jay Lewis, Eugene McGuinness, and Edgar Jones at St Michael In The Hamlet Church in Liverpool on September 26th with a check website price.

James Jay Lewis is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist from Huyton whose career has seen him perform worldwide with The La's, CAST and The Zutons.

A songwriter, producer and performer, he has released two solo albums, *Back to the Fountain* and *Waiting for the World*, showcasing his distinctive blend of acoustic and blues influences. His career has included working with legendary producer Nile Rodgers at Abbey Road Studios with The Zutons, and touring the UK, Ireland and North America with CAST, supporting Oasis on their reunion stadium shows. His solo performances offer a rare chance to experience the songs of one of Liverpool's finest musicians up close.....

Eugene McGuinness is an inventive songwriter and performer, known for his wry, nimble lyricism and blending retro influences with contemporary sounds to create his unique brand of off-kilter pop.

Of Irish heritage, the idiosyncratic McGuinness began crafting songs in his teens, and gained recognition with debut EP 'The Early Learnings of Eugene McGuinness' - released in 2007. His self-titled debut album was released in 2008 on Domino Records followed by 'Glue' (2009, as 'Eugene and The Lizards'), 'The Invitation to the Voyage' in 2012 and 'Chroma' (2014). 'Suburban Gothic' (2018) was released independently and marked his departure from Domino Records.

McGuinness's discography reflects his evolution as an artist - unafraid to experiment and never playing to the gallery, following a tradition of songwriters, with voices and interior universes that are all their own.

"a nimble lyricist and a cheerfully wordy raconteur of contemporary nightlife"

The Guardian

"patchwork pop storyteller"

BBC

"blends classic songwriting with an art school off kilter edge"

Roddy Hart, BBC Radio Scotland

Edgar Jones first came to prominence in the 90s as the bass player, singer and songwriter for Liverpool's cult psychedelic garage band The Stairs. Their seminal track 'Weed Bus' was played on high rotation on Radio 1 for 3 weeks, before they realised its subject matter, and subsequently banned it.

He's lent a session hand as bassist and singer for some of Britain's finest, including Paul Weller, Johnny Marr, The La's, Cherry Ghost, Ian McCulloch, Ocean Colour Scene and St. Etienne amongst others.

His love of soul, jazz and blues has led his solo career to run the entire gummit of such, all the way from big city northern soul productions, to one man gutbucket blues numbers on lathe pressed 45s. His solo show presently, is a tastefully varied collection of the latter, performed with gusto and hearty optimism . Guaranteed to bring a smile to any who catch it.
