A foraging workshop titled 'Embracing the Seasons' will take place at Treborth Botanic Garden in Barrow-in-Furness on 30 August 2026. The free session, aimed at beginners, covers the basics of foraging with no prior knowledge needed.
Never foraged anything before but are keen to learn the basics? No knowledge or previous experience needed, come and learn something new.
(Welsh translation below)
This 3 hour workshop will help to ground you in nature, connect you with the natural world which we are intrinsically a part of and teach you the very basics of foraging so that you can begin your journey into rewilding yourself just a little bit.
We will wander gently around the garden and surrounding woodlands, looking for and learning about some key plants to forage in this abundant and joyful season. You may learn new plants or realise that plants you know about are actually forage-able!
Absolutely no prior experience or plant knowledge is necessary - this event is designed to encourage complete beginners to dip a toe into the world of foraging and gain the confidence to try finding some wild foods yourself for the very first time.
You'll leave this experience with foraging inspiration which will be sure to encourage you to get outside, notice nature and add some fresh tasty wild ingredients to your food - benefitting your mental and physical health... and maybe even your wallet too (who doesn't love free food?!).
Nature Keen specialises in activities connecting people with nature, improving wellbeing as well as our relationship with the natural world.
This workshop will include:
A guided nature walk around Treborth Botanic Garden and woodland
An introduction to the basic principles of foraging
Teaching you some key easy-to-identify species that are edible AND some that aren't edible and you need to be careful of!
A seasonal foraging recipe to take home and have-a-go yourself
The event will be held outside, although we have the use of a sheltered outdoor pagoda if the forecast is wet.
Participants will need to come well-equipped for 3 hours outside in whatever the weather, with sturdy outdoor footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.
This event is part of a project that is funded by the The Woodland Investment Grant (TWIG) scheme. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with the Welsh Government
Bydd y gweithdy 3 awr hwn yn helpu i’ch seilio ar fyd natur, yn eich cysylltu â’r byd naturiol yr ydym yn rhan annatod ohono ac yn dysgu hanfodion chwilota i chi er mwyn i chi allu dechrau ar eich taith i ail-wylltio ychydig yn unig.
Byddwn yn crwydro’n hamddenol o amgylch yr ardd a’r coedlannau cyfagos, yn chwilio am rai planhigion allweddol ac yn dysgu amdanynt i’w chwilota yn y tymor toreithiog a llawen hwn. Efallai y byddwch chi'n dysgu planhigion newydd neu'n sylweddoli bod planhigion rydych chi'n gwybod amdanynt yn gallu porthi mewn gwirionedd!
Nid oes angen unrhyw brofiad blaenorol na gwybodaeth am blanhigion o gwbl - mae'r digwyddiad hwn wedi'i gynllunio i annog dechreuwyr llwyr i dreiddio i fyd chwilota a magu'r hyder i geisio dod o hyd i rai bwydydd gwyllt eich hun am y tro cyntaf erioed.
Byddwch yn gadael y profiad hwn gydag ysbrydoliaeth chwilota a fydd yn siŵr o'ch annog i fynd allan, sylwi ar natur ac ychwanegu cynhwysion gwyllt blasus ffres i'ch bwyd - er lles eich iechyd meddwl a chorfforol... ac efallai hyd yn oed eich waled hefyd (pwy sydd ddim yn caru bwyd am ddim?!).
Bydd y gweithdy hwn yn cynnwys:
Taith gerdded natur dywys o amgylch Gardd Fotaneg Treborth a choetir
Cyflwyniad i egwyddorion sylfaenol chwilota am fwyd
Yn dysgu rhai rhywogaethau allweddol hawdd i'w hadnabod sy'n fwytadwy a rhai nad ydynt yn fwytadwy ac mae angen i chi fod yn ofalus ohonynt!
Rysáit chwilota tymhorol i fynd adref gyda chi a rhoi cynnig arni eich hun
Bydd y digwyddiad yn cael ei gynnal y tu allan, er bod gennym y defnydd o bagoda awyr agored cysgodol os yw'r rhagolygon yn wlyb.
Bydd angen i gyfranogwyr ddod â chyfarpar da am 3 awr y tu allan beth bynnag fo'r tywydd, gydag esgidiau awyr agored cadarn a dillad sy'n addas i'r tywydd.
Mae'r digwyddiad hwn yn rhan o brosiect sy'n cael ei ariannu gan y cynllun Grant Buddsoddi mewn Coetiroedd (TWIG). Mae’n cael ei gyflwyno gan Gronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri Genedlaethol mewn partneriaeth â Llywodraeth Cymru.
