How Hard Can It Be To Improvise Shakespeare?
People can be daunted by Shakespeare - but that's not the writer's fault! It's really much simpler than you think, and closer to our lives. Oliver Senton of The School of Night wants more people to be excited by the beauty and thrill of speaking freshly-coined verse; heard for the first time, probably never to be heard again. This workshop will build from the basics of iambic up to finished scenes from the plays Will never got around to writing. Come along and surprise yourself!
Biography:
Oliver is a founder member of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical as well as The School of Night, which has been improvising Shakespeare and many other great writers since 2005. The School appeared at the last two Liverpool Improv Festivals, and in the Ken Dodd Memorial Garden at the Shakespeare North Playhouse, where Oliver is appearing as Scrooge in a new, musical version of Christmas Carol.
He has also taught improvisation at many drama schools, including fifteen years at Drama Studio London, and especially enjoys showing participants how much more they can do than they thought.
What previous participants' have said:
Almost a year after Oliver’s workshop, I’m still applying what I learned. Thanks to him, I now live by the mantra ‘the scene is in the other person’. His decades of improv experience and deep understanding of great theatre elevated my skills in just a few hours. He also created a playful, supportive space where failing feels safe and bold choices are celebrated – the perfect environment to grow as an improviser. If you’re considering signing up, don’t think twice. Just do it. You won’t regret it.
