Join us for the 2026 Liverpool Literary Festival
In an event hosted by Dr Danny O’Connor, the Colm Tóibín Lecturer in Creative Writing, come and hear from the winners and runners up of our Liverpool Literary Festival short story competition.
October marks three hundred years since the publication of Gulliver’s Travels. To celebrate, the theme of this year’s writing competition was ‘Travels’
We asked entrants to write a short story of no more than 1,500 words in any genre, which was then published in an online anthology.
This free event is sponsored by Scrivener and the judging panel included Festival Director Professor Greg Lynall, King Alfred Chair in English Literature.

All passes will include reserved seating in the lecture theatre, plus a host of other exclusive VIP benefits. Please note, the weekend pass does not include the launch event with Roger McGough on Friday 16th October.
There are a number of FREE University of Liverpool student tickets at all festival events. Students who sign up to receive their free ticket will need to add the code STUDENT26 when ordereing and show their student ID when they arrive at the venue.
