Lowlands Hall is a Grade II-listed Victorian villa located on Hayman's Green in the historic suburb of West Derb. Built in 1846 by the prominent local architect and builder Thomas Haigh, the Italianate-style mansion was originally constructed on land leased from Lord Salisbury to serve as a grand residence for Liverpool's affluent merchant elite.

Over the following decades, it housed several notable figures, most distinguished among them being Thomas Randles Withers, a wealthy stockbroker and chairman of the Liverpool Stock Exchange during the late 19th century. After the Withers family moved out in 1930, the mansion served as offices for the Inland Revenue during World War II following severe bomb damage to the city’s city centre India Buildings.

The mansion transitioned into a critical piece of global musical heritage in 1957 when it was saved from demolition and purchased by the West Derby Community Association. From 1959 until 1966, part of the building was converted into The Pillar Club, a vibrant basement and attic venue that became a foundational incubator for the burgeoning Merseybeat sound. Legendary groups like the Quarrymen (later the Beatles), Gerry and the Pacemakers, the Hollies, and the Searchers regularly played there. Notably, a teenage George Harrison regularly honed his guitar skills here with the Les Stewart Quartet, and it was at Lowlands that he famously first heard about the opening of the nearby Casbah Coffee Club.

Lowlands is widely considered by paranormal investigators to be the most haunted house in Liverpool. The Grade II-listed mansion is known for a variety of unsettling spectral activity, most famously the recurring apparition of a young Victorian girl with her hair in ringlets, wearing an old frock, who has been frequently spotted sitting on the main staircase alongside a ghost dog. Visitors have reported sudden temperature drops, doors slamming on the upper floors, disembodied voices and ghostly faces seen in the windows.
