Join us on Wednesday 21st October at 7pm, when we welcome the bestselling, multi award-winning author, Sebastian Barry to the Wirral, to celebrate the publication of his latest novel, The Newer World.

Described as 'a masterly work of historical witness and moral reckoning' by the Observer, The Newer World continues to cement Sebastian as one of the finest contemporary novelists at work today. With high praise from Claire Kilroy, Benjamin Wood and Kevin Barry, The Newer World follows the life of Tennyson Bougereau, a freed man, devoted brother, nascent singer, conflicted soldifer and wanted man, as he journeys to find meaning and belonging in the aftermath of the American Civil War.

Sebastian will be reading from the book, before being in conversation with Jordan from the bookshop, answering questions from the audience and signing copies of his books. Tickets are £10 standard admission or £25 including a hardback copy of The Newer World.

About Sebastian Barry:

Sebastian Barry was born in Dublin in 1955. The 2018–21 Laureate for Irish Fiction, his novels have twice won the Costa Book of the Year Award, the Independent Booksellers Award and the Walter Scott Prize. He had two consecutive novels shortlisted for the Booker Prize, A Long Long Way (2005) and the top ten bestseller The Secret Scripture (2008), and he has also won the Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award, the Irish Book Awards Novel of the Year and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. He lives in County Wicklow.
