A visionary who transformed fashion in the twentieth century, Elsa Schiaparelli sent shockwaves through the establishment with her witty, ingenious and provocative designs. Hailed by Cristóbal Balenciaga as the ‘only real artist in couture’, she drew inspiration from the Surrealist movement and collaborated with celebrated artists including Salvador Dalí, Jean Cocteau, Man Ray and Alberto Giacometti, creating some of the most memorable garments in fashion history.

The discussion will explore Schiaparelli’s extraordinary legacy through the lens of the new book, tracing her influence from iconic creations such as the Lobster Dress and her pioneering sportswear designs to the modern-day revival of the House of Schiaparelli under Daniel Roseberry. Guests will also discover Fortnum’s own connection to the designer through pieces held within the Fortnum & Mason archive.
