About This Event

CheckMate Kids – Monthly Sunday Club will be held on 15 November 2026 at Hotel Rafayel. The event offers children aged 6 to 14 the opportunity to receive coaching and participate in friendly rated chess matches.

CheckMate Kids Sunday Club runs once a month at Hotel Rafayel, three hours of proper chess on a Sunday afternoon. Every child gets small group coaching pitched at their level, then plays friendly rated matches with prizes and the chance to climb our CheckMate Divisions ladder.

Coaching is led by Sam Walker (National Master, former England U14 Champion) and Gabriel Barr (former England junior and British Schools Championships medallist), with over 50 years of competitive chess between them.

Ages 6 to 14, all levels welcome. Grouped by ability into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Bursaries available on request.
