CIVENG's Black History Month event will focus on inspiring future engineers through the contributions of Dr. Roni Savage, OBE FREng. The talk is scheduled for the Skempton Building in London on October 14, 2026.

Abstract Black History Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements, contributions and lasting impact of Black leaders who continue to shape society and inspire future generations. Dr Roni Savage OBE FREng is one of the UK’s most influential engineers, entrepreneurs and advocates for diversity in STEM. From founding and leading a successful engineering and environmental consultancy to advising government and championing social mobility, her journey demonstrates the power of determination, resilience and leadership. In her talk at Imperial College London, Dr Savage will reflect on her personal and professional journey, exploring the challenges and opportunities she has encountered. She will discuss the importance of representation, entrepreneurship, innovation and creating pathways for the next generation of talent. Through stories from her career and insights from her leadership roles across industry and government, Dr Savage will share how engineering can be a force for transformation, opportunity and positive societal impact. Bio Dr Roni Savage OBE FREng is an award-winning entrepreneur, Chartered Engineer, Chartered Geologist and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Jomas Associates, a leading engineering and environmental consultancy serving the construction industry. She has built a distinguished career spanning geotechnical engineering, environmental management, business leadership and public service. A Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Dr Savage has been widely recognised for her contributions to engineering, business and inclusion. Her work has supported major infrastructure and development projects across the UK, while her leadership has helped drive innovation and sustainable growth within the construction sector.
