The Fitzrovia Chapel in London will host a Commemoration and Disability Creative Workshop: Mosaics on 1 September 2026 at 17:00. The workshop is open to disabled adults and will be led by artist Phoebe Kaniewska.
A creative mosaic workshop for disabled adults inspired by the history and architecture of the Fitzrovia Chapel
Join artist Phoebe Kaniewska for a series of workshops on disability and commemoration in the Fitzrovia Chapel, a beautiful deconsecrated space and former chapel of Middlesex Hospital. It holds deep historical ties to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and many hospital staff and patients are commemorated with marble plaques and stained glass windows. This series of workshops is for disabled adults who are interested in creativity, art and the Chapel’s history. Each workshop will explore ideas of commemoration, celebration and recognition, which are particularly poignant for many disabled people, through mediums of foil embossing, badge-making and mosaics.
Workshop 3: Tuesday 1st September, 6-8pm - Mosaics
In this workshop, we will learn how to create mosaic square artworks from ceramic tiles and plates, inspired by the beautiful mosaic walls and ceilings in the Chapel. We will focus on creating mosaics that explore our disabled identities, looking at the stained glass and plaques that celebrate the staff and patients of Middlesex Hospital.
This workshop is free, with a suggested ticket donation of £5 for those who are able.
This event is wheelchair accessible. Please note, the workshop will include fine motor skills and hand and finger use. There will be staff at the workshop to support anyone who needs it.
