Join Chloe Filani from Dope Black Queers in a Writing Poetics workshop, exploring Black historic rage, riot, and protest within Britain.
This poetry creative writing workshop will look at the history of Black British protest and resistance, gaining deeper knowledge and personalising these moments for poetic writing. Participants will be encouraged to find themselves in these ideas of love, sorrow and rage in Black resistance.
The workshop's reading material will include poets such as Jay Bernard, June Jordan, Pat Parker and Linton Kwesi Johnson that all touch on poetry thats about Black resistance.
Please note this event is for Black LGBTQ+ communities.
This event is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
About the facilitator
Chloe Filani (she/her) an artist, poet, and performer using the intersections of Blackness, womanhood and her ancestral knowing. She is of Nigerian Yoruba and Eshan heritage. Her work pulses with power, vulnerability, and a language that refuses to be tamed, using poetry, dance, sound and performance.
Chloe channels myth, memory, and personal cosmology. She doesn't just perform-she conjures. Her voice becomes invocation, her words fracture silence and stitch new imaginaries and worlds into space.
Her poetry has been published in Playing femme by 16nst gallery press, Boy brothers friend and Montez Press, ‘Interjection Calendar, she has live recordings of her poetry on Anthems podcast and more on a vinyl recording from 180 studios with the poetry collective Black geographies. The touching bass event at the RA, and recently performed live on radio show, NTS Live with Rudy savage.
