Your Day's Itinerary

Oxford — The City of Dreaming Spires

Your day begins in the historic city of Oxford, home to one of the world's oldest and most prestigious universities. With its ivy-covered walls, magnificent chapels and centuries-old colleges, Oxford has long inspired scholars and filmmakers alike. Enjoy a guided walking tour through the city's picturesque streets, before taking some free time to explore or enjoy a traditional pub lunch at one of Oxford's many historic inns.

Bampton — The Village Behind Downton Abbey

Next, you'll visit Bampton, the picturesque Cotswold village used as Downton Village in the TV series. You'll recognise many familiar locations, including the village church, Matthew Crawley's mother's house, and the hospital — which is actually the public library! Inside, visit the Vesey Room, home to the Bampton Archive and local exhibitions. There's also the opportunity to pick up Downton-themed memorabilia created by local artists, including cards, prints, mugs and books.

Highclere Castle — The Iconic Home of Downton Abbey

The highlight of the day is Highclere Castle — the magnificent country seat of the Earls of Carnarvon and the primary filming location of Downton Abbey. Designed by Sir Charles Barry, who also created the Houses of Parliament, this grand estate truly brings the world of Downton to life. Explore the lavish state rooms featured in the series, including the grand main hall, library and drawing rooms. Afterwards, stroll through the stunning Capability Brown-designed gardens or relax with tea and cake in the castle café.

With the recent release of Downton Abbey 3: The Grand Finale, there has never been a better time to visit the real-life locations that brought this beloved story to life.

Special Gift — Lady Carnarvon's Book

Every guest receives a complimentary copy of one of Lady Carnarvon's books — an exclusive keepsake available only through Premium Tours, offering a unique glimpse into the real history of Highclere Castle and its fascinating residents.
