Ealdspell: an Exhibition of Modern Folklore opens on 22 August 2026 at Unit 0, Copeland Park in London. The pop-up exhibition features 14 artists and 4 performers, along with a bar, DJ and print stall.
A pop up exhibition in the heart of Peckham, with 14 artists and 4 performers celebrating modern folklore! With bar, DJ and print stall!
Ealdspell is an Anglo-Saxon word referencing the never-ending chain of sagas that made up their mythology. The exhibition will celebrate the diversity of modern folk culture, and our ever evolving ealdspell.
With 14 artists showing artworks across painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and textile, plus 4 performers across music and performance art, there will be reflections on the folklore of different cultures and how they connect us, exploration of women and queer folk's inclusion in folk culture, and personal mythologies unique to the artists. There will also be a zine making workshop (tickets sold separately) where guests can create their own responses, and a chance to add your own narrative to a collaborative book of modern folktales.
Tickets to the zine making workshop can be found here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/zine-making-workshop-at-the-ealdspell-exhibition-tickets-1995731068349
Throughout the day there will be a bar onsite, and a print stall selling affordable artworks, postcards, zines and other creations by the exhibiting artists and other collaborators. There will also be a DJ set by the awesome Dave Reel to finish off the evening!
The event is curated by Seb Bradshaw, with thanks to Food Hall for the venue and equipment. Entry is free, but donations are gratefully acepted to cover costs.
