About This Event

Echolocation: Elemental Foley will be a performance on September 13th at Microscope, featuring Lia Mazzari and Anton Spice.

Glacial listening and sonic conversations around Microscope's current exhibition: Elemental Foley by Lia Mazzari, with Anton Spice

Join us for a slow afternoon exploring sonic environmentalism and creative exchange. We're hosting an intimate Sunday conversation, with opportunity to see the exhibition and meet the artist.

Elemental Foley moves between geological deep time and digital real time, transmitting the shifts of the ‘End der Welt’ glacier in Stelvio National Park, Italy. Through a quadraphonic live glacier transmission, archival footage, film and displaced fragments of an Alpine imaginary, the exhibition explores environmental change as an unfolding process, where remembered pasts, transmitted presents and possible futures collide within the accelerating timescapes of climate change.

Lia Mazzari is a sound artist and researcher working with open-source sound transmission technologies in environmental research as unique tools for alternative ‘live’ models of listening, responding to, and composing with more-than-human environments. Winner of an Oram Award in 2022, Lia has developed works for Tate Modern/Britain (UK), Biennale Gherdeina (IT), Zone2Source Gallery (NL), South London Gallery (UK), Arnolfini (UK), V&A Dundee (UK), and BBC Radio 3. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Centre for GeoHumanities Royal Holloway, University of London.

Anton Spice is a writer, editor and artist-researcher with fourteen years' experience across music, arts, design and environmental sectors in London and Berlin. Anton's writing has been published in The Guardian, Frieze, Sonic Acts, Tate Etc., Electronic Sound, Wax Poetics, Composer, Bandcamp, Atlas Obscura, Disco Pogo, WeJazz, Caught By The River and The Vinyl Factory, and he is associate lecturer in design at Goldsmiths University.

Arrive from 4:40pm, we'll start at 5pm.

Microscope is not-for-profit, all ticket proceeds go directly to the artist.
