About This Event

The Evening Bat Walk at Leg o'Mutton Nature Reserve is scheduled for 29 October 2026. Participants will join a Senior Conservation Officer to explore the reserve and learn about local bats using bat detectors. The event aims to provide insights into nocturnal wildlife in their natural setting, though it may be subject to cancellation due to weather conditions.

Join Will, our Senior Conservation Officer for a walk around Leg o' Mutton to discover the resident bats using bat detectors.

Leg o' Mutton is designated as a Local Nature Reserve where cormorant, heron, tufted duck and even breeding common terns can be seen during daylight hours.

In the evening, the local nocturnal wildlife can be seen and heard in their natural setting.

Join Will Scott-Mends, BCL's Senior Conservation Officer and resident bat expert on a walk around the reservoir. With his expert knowledge and some luck you will hopefully discover bats feeding at dusk and pick up their calls on bat detectors.

We hope for a lovely warm and dry evening, however, weather can be unpredictable, so please dress appropriately and wear sturdy footwear.

This event is subject to cancellation at short notice in case of adverse weather.

Please note, due to the narrow paths at the site, places are limited and booking is essential.

IMPORTANT UPDATE - NEW MEETING POINT

Please note that we have changed the meeting point for this walk to make it easier to find. Meet Will at the wooden bench on the Thames Path, by the corner of Lonsdale Road and Gerard Road. The bench is just across Lonsdale Road from the house with the life size Star Wars stormtrooper on its balcony, so if you see it, then you’re in the right place.

You can reach Will on the day on 07880953925.

Please arrive on time so we can walk to the Leg o’Mutton Nature Reserve together.
