I Am the Performative Object is a rush of late afternoon and evening performances closing the public programme of Present Tense.

Maite de Orbe’s durational tracing at Raleigh Chapel, made with those who enter, marks the thresholds of the church and the evening programme. Individual traces accumulate into a collective record of those who have passed through.

Ticket holders can paricipate and perform in Lin Chiwei’s Tape Score project. Chiwei’s scores are not written instructions but protocols, objects and devices: ribbons embroidered with syllables, knotted cords, coloured beads, grids. They set up a shared temporal framework in which music emerges from rhythmic entrainment, bodies falling into time with one another. No experience needed: rehearsals from 3pm, performance at 6pm. Berlin-based writer Martin Sigler presents a new prose-poetry fable exploring collection, preservation and adaptation in a world facing a host of realities ending in ‘-cide’. Damsel Elysium, his collaborator of recent years, creates an original, semi-improvised soundtrack.

Belgian-Congolese musician, composer and researcher Cedrik Fermont’s performance is part documentary, part improvisation, part abstraction, moving between recognisable sounds and unfamiliar sonic landscapes: a cinema for the ears in which voice, memory, place and movement become material for a live, ever-changing sound experience.
