An introduction to foraging in a beautiful area of ancient woodland, grassland, ponds and hedgerows, wildlife, a great escape from the city.
Join me on this fantastic new site for a flavour-led foraging walks. Horsenden is the largest single nature conservation site within the borough at 90 hectares. It comprises of meadows, wetland and woodland habitat. A beautiful area of ancient woodland, grassland, ponds and hedgerows, it's home to an abundance of wildlife and provides an opportunity to experience nature and escape from city life. With Perivale station around the corner & access from the Grand Union canal it’s a quick and easy journey on most transport routes from London and accessible via car also.
I very much look forward to bringing people to this site which is a strong community hub with a brewery, bakery, permaculture practice based garden and fantastic special days throughout the year.
My walks run for 2.5 hours and are an introduction to foraging for wild flavour in order to teach, the rules, identification techniques, responsible & respectful foraging, topics surrounding soil health, folklore and the history associated with wild ingredients. Throughout the walk we will identify seasonal ingredients and compare and contrast with their dangerous counterparts. During this I will be regularly visiting certain techniques of preservation and ways in which to create tasty wild ingredients to use at home along with a few tasters.
For each edible fungi or plant I will discuss techniques of preservation and ways in which to create tasty wild ingredients that can be used at home. I also follow up with detailed information surrounding what we have seen throughout the walk, links, literature and remain available to answer questions. All items consumed will be prepared from a private site and I don’t gather on the day.
