Join the Friends of PSAD this October for a fascinating talk by Chloë Sayer exploring the remarkable life and legacy of Frida Kahlo.

The Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907–1954) is regarded as one of the great artists of the 20th century. Her celebrity status, achieved after her death, owes much to her turbulent life. The daughter of a German photographer and a Mexican mother, she survived polio at the age of six and a devastating road accident at the age of eighteen.

Her injuries would lead, after many surgical interventions, to her death at the age of forty-seven. But Kahlo lived the intervening years to the full. Tate Modern is currently celebrating her life and work with the exhibition ‘Frida: The Making of an Icon’. (25.06.26 to 03.01.27). Last year, a new auction record was set when Frida's painting 'The Dream' sold for $54.7 million, the highest price ever paid for any artwork by a woman.

Chloë Sayer is a freelance specialist in the art and culture of Latin America and leads cultural trips to Mexico for EYHO tours. Visits to ancient archaeological sites and splendid colonial cities are combined with trips to small villages where craft and festive traditions endure. She remains fascinated by Mexico’s strong visual culture, and enjoys sharing her passion for Mexico with like-minded travellers.

She regularly lectures for the Arts Society (formerly NADFAS).

Doors open at 6:15pm and the talk will begin at 7pm.
