Ho Bina – to sing / dance in Sesotho language

If you have a voice you can sing, if you have feet you can dance!

Welcome to Ho Bina Choir – a community musical group celebrating medicine music from around the world!

This will include traditional English folk songs, as well as mantras in Sanskrit and medicine songs sung in Spanish and Portuguese!

Our sessions will be Fridays, 7-9pm:

September 25th

October 16th

November 27th

December 18th

What to expect:

This project aims to bring people from varied cultural and musical backgrounds, no previous musical experience needed!

Catarina will be arranging different songs to be learnt by ear and sung in different groups and harmonies. Every session will start with some voice activation, as well as a vocal warm up. There will be a break halfway through to chat & mingle!

This is a safe, supportive space where individual voices come together as one.

Facilitators:

This group will be led by Catarina Carvalho, a trained classical singer who has been exploring mantra chanting and medicine song for the last four years. Catarina is also a community singing groups’ leader and a sound healer.

We will be assisted by Alex Dmochowski, a professional saxophone player who has been playing music from varied and rich cultures since a young age. Alex is currently playing in bands with musicians from Ghana, India, South America, as well as leading his own band.

Hosting and playing with us, we’ll have Dada Da’naviira Brc. a yogic monk of Ananda Marga. An artist and musician who has travelled around the globe by teaching the science of meditation, yogic dances, Kirtan mantras, Bhajans and traditional tantric yogic practices applied in modern life.
