Irish Stories South of the River ☘️
Let's find out why large numbers of Irish people came to London & in particular south of the river. We'll hear of their stories and struggles but also achievements against the odds and their significant contribution to Irish & London life.
There's Bessie, the beloved & famed Music Hall star and the visionary post office workers who were instrumental in the fight for Irish Independence. We'll hear of the Corkman who became a leader of the Chartist movement & the many 2nd generation Irish who topped the 1980s pop charts including visiting the street where one of their videos was shot!
These stories and streets will cover the 1800s to recent times, integrating local London history as we stroll through beautiful parks and Georgian squares.
Come join me on this walking tour starting at the iconic St George's Cathedral (the Catholic one, not Southwark Cathedral 😊) and ending in the historic Kennington park.
