About the Workshop
İznik ceramics are celebrated for their distinctive floral language, with stylised flowers and sweeping leaves transforming ceramic surfaces into richly decorated works of art.
Flourishing during the Ottoman period, particularly in the 16th century, İznik ceramics became renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, vivid colours and distinctive decorative language. Today, they are recognised as one of the most celebrated traditions of Ottoman decorative art, with historic examples held in major museum collections around the world.
With the compositions prepared in advance, you can spend the workshop focusing on painting, colour and technique, while Nagihan guides you through each stage of the process.
At the end of the session, your hand-painted vase will be professionally kiln-fired and made ready for collection from Yunus Emre Institute London.
Kiln Firing & Collection
Your finished ceramic piece cannot be taken home on the day of the workshop, as it must first undergo kiln firing. You will receive an email when your piece is ready for collection.
Ceramic firing involves very high temperatures and, as with all kiln-fired ceramics, there is a small inherent risk of cracking, breakage or other unexpected changes during firing. While every reasonable care will be taken when handling and firing participants’ work, these risks are a natural part of the ceramic process and cannot be completely eliminated.
Damage occurring as a result of the firing process does not entitle the participant to a refund of the workshop fee.
