About This Event

A two-hour workshop at Allen's Gardens in London on 11 October 2026 teaches how to make photoframes from clay and found materials. Sessions run from 2pm to 4pm with tickets listed between £16.96 and £27.80.

A two hour workshop in Allens Community Garden, learning how to incorporate foraged/found materials into ceramics

Join us for a two hour workshop in the Allens Community Garden classroom from 2-4pm. (Note: there is an identical AM workshop running from 11am-1pm with a seperate event listing).

We will learn to roll out and handle slabs of clay, in a way which minimises pesky potential warping. These flat slabs will then be transformed into photoframes, which we will decorate with found glass, which I can provide, orI also invite you to bring your own (this 'waste' material might contain special memories: beach glass from a favourite walk, a wine bottle from a special occasion, a piece of window from an old building)

We will discuss how materials, such as waste glass, can be used in ceramics, as additions to the clay body like above, or as a potential glaze ingredient. We can also talk about it's limitations as a material in your ceramics practice, logistically, also.

We will obviously be handling broken glass, which can be sharp and irritate sensitive skin. Because of this I suggest that children should be over 12+ years of age and must be supervised by a responsible adult.

NOTE: There is an additional optional firing cost of £10 if you would like to keep your piece. This can be paid at the end of the workshop. Work will be collectable from the garden after 1 month.

Directions

Allens Community Garden is situated inside Allen's Gardens park in Stoke Newington. The postcode is N16 5BD. The entrance to the park is on Bethune road, near Manor road, and the garden is on the right when you enter the park through a wooden door, which will be clearly marked. Do make sure you don't go to the Allens Gardens in Shoreditch!

Accessibility

The garden has no steps but is uneven and can be slippery in wet weather. The toilet is accessible by a ramp that has unfortunately broken, so includes a slope upwards and downwards.

The main paths are wheelchair accessible but the spaces between beds can be too narrow at points for a wheelchair to pass.

The site has running water, an indoor heated space and lots of seating.

There is an unfenced pond, so small children need supervision.

The garden is stewarded by primarily neurodivergent people, and we will do our best to accommodate any sensory needs.

We love dogs, but if you want to bring a dog, please let us know in advance and keep them on a lead.
