About This Event

On 29 October 2026, MayDay Rooms in London will host a session of the Archiving from Below series, featuring a conversation between Dr Sophie Marie Niang and Dr Siddharth Soni. The discussion will focus on digital archives, their vulnerabilities compared to physical collections, and the future of data centres. Attendees will engage with collections related to ecological direct action.

This session of the Archiving from Below series will be hosted by Ambivalent Archives, a Cambridge-based research lab exploring critical archival research and practice. For this event, convenor Dr Sophie Marie Niang will be in conversation with Dr Siddharth Soni, discussing digital archives, databases and repositories. In what ways are digital collections more vulnerable than physical ones? What is the future of data centres? Can someone really be off-grid? In a dynamic discussion, we will cover the dreams and pitfalls of digitisation, the (im)possibilities for non-hierarchical archival spaces provided by the internet, and how organisers might think about and use them critically. This event will provide an opportunity to engage with our growing collections of ecological direct action, including long running action update Do or Die!, Green Line, Live Wild or Die, Earth First! Tree Flesh, Live Wild or Die, as well as many tactical guides, and practical action manuals. Sign up here
