A guided walk with Geoff celebrating the range of extraordinary global cuisine, down by the Wandle in the fabulous London Borough of Merton!

Merton United is an ongoing initiative celebrating the extraordinary contribution of people who have come from all over the world to live in the borough of Merton. This Walk, showcases the fabulous range of international food outlets in a small stretch of the borough close to the River Wandle. The area near Colliers Wood station and Merton Abbey Mills is a vibrant location, packed with heritage and reminders of its industrial past but also modern-day history-makers doing incredible things to make this a great place to live and add to any visitor's experience. Liqui-Liqui, Coffee In The Wood, Chaaye Khana, Ting 'n' Ting, Black Radish, Gourmet and Ban Yai to name a few. They are bringing you exquisite tastes and unique gastronomic experiences from every corner of the globe - serving you in this atmospheric and historic quarter, some located in buildings once used by the renowned William Morris and Liberty companies, visited by royalty on their way to the Epsom Derby or where activists like Frank Kitz met to thrash out a better deal for Wandle workers. This is their story! We are talking; Venezuelan, Thai, Lebanese, Brazilian, Caribbean, Filipino, Sicilian, Pakistani, Turkish, Indian, Sri Lankan, French and Korean. Be sure to join this informative and entertaining walk in its rustic riverside setting, once the site of a mighty Priory where Kings and Queens were crowned and the lovenest of Admiral Nelson and Emma Hamilton.

Come with an empty stomach, have a look and hopefully a taste of what's been heralded as 'The New Tooting'... that's where over the past ten years we've helped champion 'The Culinary Capital of South London' with tours, walks and food-experience events that have encouraged visitors from all over the capital and beyond. The highly-acclaimed 'Tooting Food Festival' earlier this year was an unforgettable two day spectacle and we've done other food tours as part of South Asian Heritage Month and Black History 365. Now its time to shine a light on everything on offer in sensational Collywood International!

Geoff Simmons runs a community history project in south west London called Summerstown182 alongside his job as a graphic designer. This involves Guided Walks and Talks, working with schools and putting up plaques. Over the last ten years a trail of these have emerged along the Wandle Valley, shining a light on some of the lesser-known history in this area.
