My Neighbour Totoro is playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London’s West End. This stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated feature, created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, follows sisters Satsuki and Mei through one extraordinary summer and the changing world of childhood imagination.

The production is the record-breaking, award-winning return of the show, adapted by Tom Morton-Smith and presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi. It has won six Olivier Awards and is described as a coming-of-age story set within a magical fantasy world.

Before you book

Age guidance: recommended for ages 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 4 years old, including babes in arms, and children under 4 will not be admitted. All children need to occupy their own seat throughout the performance, and anyone aged 16 or under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over who is seated with them.

All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. The show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in audience space, themes of an ill parent in hospital, and live music and sound effects that are loud at times and may be scary for some younger children. Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances.
