My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre is the West End return of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated feature, adapted for the stage by Tom Morton-Smith and produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi, in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV. It tells a coming-of-age story set over one summer in the lives of sisters Satsuki and Mei.

Winner of six Olivier Awards, this record-breaking production brings the story to the stage with puppets, including large-scale puppets, alongside live music and sound effects.

The show explores childhood imagination and fantasy, with a staging built around a celebrated film story brought into a live theatre setting.

Running time: 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20 minute interval.

Before you book

Age guidance: recommended for ages 6+ and not suitable for children under 4, including babes in arms. Children under 4 will not be admitted into the auditorium. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, who must be seated with them and stay with them throughout the visit. Children need to occupy their own seat at all times. It is the customer’s responsibility to check the suitability of the performance for any children in their party.

Booking notes: all persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. Relaxed performances are available for younger children and babes in arms. The production features large-scale puppets that may interact in audience space, themes of an ill parent in hospital, and live music and sound effects that can be loud at times and may be scary for some younger children.
