Novara Media’s Downstream IRL event, 'The Fall of the West', will take place at EartH in London on 16 November 2026. Ash Sarkar will discuss Owen Jones' new book, which examines the decline of the West and its underlying causes. Tickets start from £15.
This event will take place in EartH Theatre.
Everyone agrees the West is in decline. But who’s really to blame?
Join us at EartH for this Downstream IRL, where Ash Sarkar will sit down with Owen Jones to discuss his new book, The Fall of the West: How They Really Lost It.
For years, the right has pinned the blame on migrants, Muslims and a 'woke mob’. That story has gone mainstream. But, Jones argues, the real culprit is the power-hungry ruling class and 'good, old-fashioned hubris'. Taking us on a journey from Afghanistan and Iraq to the 2008 crash and Gaza today, he shows how a West, convinced its rule would last forever, ended up in an existential crisis of its own making.
As the latest war goes badly wrong, governments keep up the fiction that force can restore their power. Politicians bleat on about the ‘international rules-based order’ while arms continue to flow to Israel. Against this backdrop, can Burnham's Labour mark a real break from Starmerism, or does he just have better PR - and what does it mean for the Greens?
Expect big questions, bold analysis, and the kind of conversation you simply won't find anywhere else.
\\Doors will open at 6.30pm and the event will begin at 7.30pm. You'll have a chance to buy the book at our merch stall in the bar.\\
All funds will support Novara Media’s independent, truthful journalism.
