The restless spirit of the Beat Generation comes roaring to life in Walter Salles’s adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s landmark novel. Set against the sprawling highways, jazz clubs, and smoky backrooms of postwar America, this intoxicating portrait of youthful rebellion follows aspiring writer Sal Paradise (Sam Riley) as he falls under the spell of the charismatic, freewheeling Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund).

Along for the ride is Marylou, played with fearless sensuality by Kristen Stewart, whose magnetic performance captures the sexual liberation and emotional wreckage at the heart of the Beat movement. With a supporting cast including Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams, and Viggo Mortensen, On the Road is a feverish odyssey of sex, drugs, jazz, and literary ambition—a yearning, sun-drenched elegy for a generation determined to live outside the rules, no matter the cost.
