Acclaimed concert pianist Warren Mailley-Smith takes centre stage with a programme that showcases the brilliance and emotional depth of Sergei Rachmaninov. These works highlight the expressive range and technical brilliance of late Romantic piano music: Rachmaninov Piano Sonata No. 2 (revised version) with its dense, dramatic structure, alongside selections from Rachmaninov Preludes Op. 23 which balance lyricism and intensity. Tchaikovsky’s seasonal mood painting appears in Tchaikovsky October (from The Seasons), offering reflective warmth, while the virtuosic sparkle of Flight of the Bumblebee brings a burst of rapid, energetic brilliance to complete the set.
