A night of honest conversations about the things we usually keep to ourselves Raw Talk with Lorna Perry - Live #2 After a sold-out night in June unpacking all things modern love, Raw Talk Live is back this October. But this time, we’re talking about something you’re probably even more uncomfortable speaking about: mental health. Despite all the stereotypes about Gen Z being the most open, self-aware and therapy-literate generation yet, many young people are still reluctant to talk about their mental health. Research suggests that 40 per cent of Gen Z adults think there is a stigma around mental health, with many unwilling to talk to friends or family about their struggles. Lorna Perry knows how difficult it can be. Her Substack essay, “Everybody’s vaping, but I’m still smoking”, explored what it felt like to be the odd one out amongst her friends when it came to depression. More than 50,000 people read her piece – a pretty good indication that there are plenty of us who still want to talk about the things we struggle to say out loud. Joining Lorna on the sofa is Poppy Bilderbeck, a London-based freelance writer, performer, and mental health campaigner who strives to make the more uncomfortable conversations – from sex parties to grief – feel a little easier through her work. Lorna and Poppy aren’t experts, so this won’t be a panel or a lecture on mental health. Instead, expect two people on a sofa talking honestly about the reality of living with anxiety and depression. From the bad days and the unexpected things that help, to how they've rebuilt their confidence and become more hopeful. There’ll also be the chance to submit an anonymous question for Lorna and Poppy to discuss on the night – usually the best bit.
